Broadcom’s Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility

At Broadcom, we believe it takes more than just innovative products to measure our success and the value we provide to customers. We’re particularly proud of the strides we’ve taken to be a responsible global citizen – focusing on best practices to respect the environment, support our communities and improve the quality of life for future generations.

To hold ourselves accountable to these high standards, Broadcom maintains a number of benchmarks that are reported in an annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Scorecard. I’m happy to report that the company improved its CSR benchmark scores by 57 percent in 2013, well over the 30 percent improvement goal that we had set.

Because we believe 99.98 percent of all Internet traffic crosses through at least one Broadcom chip, we have a tremendous opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the world, including the ability to reduce electricity consumption and carbon emissions.

Social responsibility is part of the company’s DNA. In our facilities around the world, we improve energy efficiency by using space efficiently, investing in recycling efforts, utilizing less material and engaging in green IT practices. Likewise, we work with suppliers who observe our same high standards.

Social responsibility also comes in the form of being a supporter of our communities and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education through the Broadcom Foundation. I’m happy to report funding for the Broadcom Foundation now stands at $100 million, up from $75 million in 2012.

Much of this change is due to the hard work and commitment of Broadcom’s employees, who launched many of our CSR initiatives through grassroots efforts. Last year, more than 1,000 employees volunteered their time to improve their local communities and, collectively, employees recycled more than 11,000 pounds of electronic waste during Earth Day activities.

I’m happy about how far Broadcom has come in its efforts around Corporate Social Responsibility and I’m looking forward to watching the impact that our continued momentum will bring in the years to come.
