As employees around the world replace their desktops and laptops with mobile devices, network managers are seeking new ways to provision, secure and control enterprise computing resources and information access to keep employees connected – regardless of their location.

This week, we unveiled our latest innovation designed for the modern workforce (aka Enterprise 2.0). The BCM56545 brings the innovation Broadcom is known for in the data center and service provider networks to the wiring closet, enabling gigabit connectivity in the enterprise.

One very cool feature of this new solution is our new App-IQ technology. It provides network managers with application-level visibility, meaning they can more effectively manage congestion, block undesired applications and ultimately increase employee productivity. Until now, only specialized and expensive appliances could deliver this level of application visibility.

So what does this mean for the common road warrior doing business on the go? It means faster connections, effortless streaming video and easy access to cloud based applications and data. In short, it means a better overall experience when connecting with the corporate network.

Come by our Interop booth next week to see the technology in action or visit our website to learn more.

Whether you’re reading this post from your PC – or in today’s interconnected world, more likely your smartphone or tablet – there’s no denying the increase in devices that we all own for business and personal use. In fact, by 2020, the number of connected devices is expected to reach 50 billion – that’s six devices for every person on earth.

But it’s not just devices that consumers and professionals are using regularly. There’s a constant uptick in content consumption that’s also driving traffic. To look at it another way: By 2015, one million minutes of video content will cross the network every second while the number of devices connected to IP networks will be twice the global population.

As such, it’s not much of a jump to see that as providers upgrade their networks to accelerate bandwidth and literally (and figuratively) keep pace with market trends, new technology solutions will be needed to balance the power consumption and costs for energy efficient Ethernet.

Earlier this week, Broadcom announced two new 10GBASE-T PHYs (physical layer transceivers) to our portfolio of networking solutions, which extends energy efficient Ethernet (EEE) at all three operating speeds (1GbE, 10GbE and 100M) while reducing footprint, cost and power consumption for an overall lower operating power by more than 50 percent.

This is the first of many exciting announcements leading up to next month’s Interop conference in Las Vegas, where Broadcom will be exhibiting and introducing new technologies for the data center, green IT, enterprise. The annual technology show, now in its 27th year, is focused on industry trends such as cloud computing, virtualization, security, mobility and data center advances.

We’ll be blogging, posting videos, live tweeting and more. Follow us on Facebook , Twitter or Google Plus for regular updates and, of course, the Broadcom Connected blog.
As the adoption of digital television continues to grow around the world, manufacturers are turning to Broadcom for technology that will drive a low-cost, high-quality interactive high-def experience to emerging markets.

Humax, a premier Korean set-top box (STB) maker, and Broadcom announced today the deployment of the industry’s first 40-nanometer high definition satellite STBs.

Silicon designed in the 40 nm CMOS process enables lower power, higher performance and significant design efficiencies beyond 65 nm. Broadcom’s technology – the BCM7358 HD satellite STB SoC – features a high performance CPU, advanced security and connectivity support, including Digital Living Network Alliance, or DLNA. Its high integration reduces design complexity, size and overall system cost to accelerate deployment of HD satellite STBs.

Digital TV is growing rapidly throughout the world, driven by consumer demand. Pay-TV subscribers in the Brazil, Russia, India and China markets are projected to reach half a billion by 2016 with approximately 75 percent on digital platforms, according to ABI Research.

Sam Rosen, a senior analyst with ABI, said:

…lower cost HD STBs will help Asian satellite operators to proliferate HD video and other advanced services to consumers that previously could not afford them. Emerging markets require cost-optimized solutions supporting only a single television, options for integrated or external security, robust 2D user interfaces, and HD video.

Today’s announcement marks a significant milestone in the accelerated development and quick deployment of high performance 40 nm set-top boxes worldwide.
