TV to Any Screen: DIRECTV’s Media Center is Named Innovation Finalist

TV is on the move, with broadcasts heading to multiple screens, including mobile devices. Now, DirecTV is launching a Broadcom-powered set-top box that enables the liberation of TV programming and more. Called DIRECTV Home Media Center system, the box allows users to record five shows at once, store up to 800 hours of content and watch them in any connected room.

It features RVU technology so users can enjoy DIRECTV programming and HD DVR functionality on multiple compatible Smart TVs without the need of additional devices.

DIRECTV’s Home Media Center has been recognized by its peers and named a finalist for the Innovation Award at IBC, the premier broadcasting show in Amsterdam in September.

The Broadcom chip inside -the BCM7400 HD STB SoC – opens the way for fast advanced entertainment while reducing overall cost and power requirements for deploying set-top boxes. Powered by Broadcom, the Media Center is an example of how DIRECTV is pushing the envelope in providing its customers with the best viewing and user experiences.

Stay tuned to see if the device becomes an award-winner. Winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony at the IBC Show in Amsterdam on Sunday, September 9.
