Broadcom opened VMworld today with a bang, revealing our latest innovation for cloud-scale networking – the StrataXGS® Trident II Switch Series. Whether you’re a technophile, a mild geek enthusiast or simply a smartphone or tablet user, this product will have an impact on how quickly and efficiently you can download data.
The number of network connections is growing at an astounding pace. Cisco’s latest VNI forecast predicts the number of connected devices to reach 50 Billion by 2020 – that’s six devices for every person on Earth. What many of us outside the cloistered world of IT and network managers don’t think about is the resulting stress that our intense and frequent access to high-bandwidth content and apps places on the data center network infrastructure.
Thankfully, the innovative masterminds working behind the scenes at Broadcom have been developing a higher scale and more efficient way to prepare the network infrastructure so that cloud-based services can seamlessly reach the content-hungry masses.
Based on Broadcom’s award winning StrataXGS architecture, the new Trident II series is the first to deliver more than 100 10GbE ports, a 4X increase in network virtualization scale and a 2X increase in forwarding and classification tables. Touting the world’s highest bandwidth and port density, the new series enables cost-effective and high perfor
mance data center build-out to an unprecedented number of server and storage endpoints, applications and users, enabling a new era in cloud-scale and software defined networking.
We’ll continue the conversation about network virtualization at VMworld in San Francisco this week, where I will present together with other industry experts including VMware’s Technical Director T. Sridhar and Solutions Architect Ravindra Neelakant.
If you’re attending the show, come by our session on Wednesday, August 29 and join our discussion. And, of course, you’re welcome to swing by our booth – #2107 – to meet our team and view our entire line of solutions for enabling the next generation cloud-scale network.
